I’ve known Danielle and Cindy, the “Baby Fish Mouth” girls, for a while now. I’ve never met them in person, but on a past business venture, I was watching “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” and I saw Danielle, on my TV screen. I knew that because I was working with her, I was on to something.

I love the name of the line: Baby Fish Mouth. If you aren’t a huge “When Harry Met Sally” fan like I am (and even if you are, but just like watching scenes over and over), here’s the scene where from where they got their company’s name:

I love this gift. I love that it comes wrapped in a popcorn box.

And I love all the different slogans they feature in sizes from the tiniest baby to the cutest little tot:

But you know me. It’s not only about the products with me. It’s about the story. It’s about the people. So I held a quick interview with the Baby Fish Mouth girls… and here’s what I’ve got:

Tell me about the day you came up with the idea for Baby Fish Mouth.
Danielle: I was a Marketing Director at a Cable TV Network and was
“watching” Rachel Ray at the office (hey, it was sort of my job). She
had on a panel of “Mompreneurs” who were talking about all the things
they invented and all day I thought to myself, “I’m a mom, I’m smart,
I hate my job – I could do that!” So that night I went home and the
idea for BFM literally just came to me. Cindy and I had met freshman
year of college and we always talked about doing something together.
She was my first and only phone call. 2 hours later the entire concept
for BFM was born.

What was the first thing you did to get started? Called a lawyer, who
happens to be Cindy’s brother-in-law. We wanted to talk about setting
up our company and all that would be involved from a legal standpoint.

What was the first big break you got as far as a “big sale”? Femail
Creations. It is a catalog and website that does a huge business and
they were the first big order for us. To see our shirt in the pages of
their catalog was really exciting!

Where did you grow up? Danielle: I grew up in Massapequa, Long Island
and now reside with my almost 5 year-old son in Forest Hills, Queens.
Cindy: I’m originally from the Midwest – Toledo, Ohio to be exact,
home of the famous Tony Packo’s Hungarian Hot Dog. I now live in Los
Angeles with my husband and 3 1/2 year old daughter.

What did you do before you became a mompreneur? Danielle: As I said
earlier, I was in Television Marketing for almost 13 years – wow! Now,
in addition to Baby Fish Mouth, I do freelance marketing copywriting,
which I love.
Cindy: In addition to BFM, I work in magazine publishing as a print
Production Director for several healthy living related titles.

What’s your “elevator pitch” about the product: Baby Fish Mouth is an
infant and toddler t-shirt company that takes famous quotes from
movies and puts a clever “baby” spin on them. And all shirts come
gift-ready in a movie popcorn box.

What’s your favorite vacation of all time? Danielle: My honeymoon to
Kenya. We went on safari. It was magical and truly a
once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Cindy: Mine would have to be the yearly trips to Hilton Head Island,
South Carolina with my family growing up. I just loved the 2 day road
trip to get there and then lounging by the pool, playing tennis and
shopping during the days.

What’s the one place you’d love to go with your family? Danielle: I’d
love to take my son to Disney World. Cindy: Shamefully, I’ve never
been to the Grand Canyon and would love to experience that with my
family.

How about without the kids? Danielle: Italy – hands down. I am dying
to see Florence, Rome, Venice and the Amalfi Coast. I love wine and
art history, so this is my dream trip.
Cindy: Top of my list is to rent a villa with a bunch of friends (and
their families) in Tuscany.

What’s your favorite restaurant? Danielle: Anything sushi!
Cindy: Which type of food and in what city?! At the moment, our go-to
restaurant near our home is Paul Martin’s American Bistro. Everything
on the menu is locally grown, organic and sustainable and I have never
met a dish there I didn’t like. Great wine list too!

Anything Baby Fish Mouth does for charity? When we launched, we did a
Triple-Negative breast cancer fundraiser.
Ironically, one of Cindy’s
relatives was diagnosed a short time after. Thankfully she is healthy
now. We would love to do more we just have not solidified a position.

The most important thing people should know about your brand: Remember, 7 out of 10 children are below grade level in movie literacy. You can help change that.

Are you also a movie fan? Want a great gift for a little one you know and you can’t find Baby Fish Mouth in a boutique in your hometown? Let us know. We’ll make call and make them an offer they can’t refuse.
